Foxycut Salon

Foxycut is a hair salon in Georgetown with a crew of 13 stylists and specialists, and it offers free parking. The salon describes itself as a safe zone for everyone and says it is not fancy, with art on the walls, conversation and an easygoing feel.

Barbering covers fades, shape-ups, full head designs, shags and mullets. Curly hair cuts are done as a dry cut, then a shampoo and style, then a second dry cut. Fantasy color options include vivids, neons, galaxy melts, rainbow work and color corrections, and blonding and highlights include silver and platinum work. Braids, locs, weaves and extensions run from festival braids to full installs, and the salon also does perms, blowouts, updos and make-up for events and shoots.

Every visit follows the same sequence of consultation, cut, wash and dry, then a final cut, and a visit can open with about 15 minutes of consultation. Each step is explained before it happens. A consultation is required for first-time fantasy color and highlight clients, and the first fantasy color consultation costs $20, which is applied to the service. Braids, locs, weaves and extensions are booked by text and each install is quoted individually. Curly hair clients are asked to arrive with their curls shown, without ponytails, headbands or braids.

The salon does not offer refunds; if a service is not right, it says it will fix it. Pay What You Can applies to haircuts on the first Monday of each month, and cuts, coupons and vouchers are offered on request for community programs, fundraisers and individuals. Mellow Mondays bring low music and dimmed lights, while other days play curated 70s, 80s and 90s playlists. Clients who want a quieter visit can book the private room, and every station has space for a friend to sit alongside. Coffee, tea, caffeine and snacks are available, with self-serve coffee. The salon keeps earplugs, disposable masks, unscented towels and fidget toys on hand. Salon Sessions, a free party held every other month, features LGBTQ+ and BIPOC artists.

Each visit follows a set sequence, with a short consultation at the start and each step explained before it happens.
