Forecast

Forecast opened in May 2017. Co-founders Mert McNaughton and Mark Hyde built the salon around fashion, creativity and innovation, and the salon says it wants to shape a movement in those areas. It also says it is committed to caring for the environment and the people around it. Community work includes Local Loop Lifestyle Market pop-ups, educational events and charitable efforts.

New color clients book a consultation before reserving a color appointment. The consultation runs about 15 minutes, and during it the stylist looks at hair, reviews hair history, goes over pricing and sets up a deposit. Virtual consultations are available. A guest care team matches new clients with a stylist based on their hair goals, and appointment length is estimated at the consultation, with color and cut transformations often taking longer. Every service includes a complimentary cocktail chosen from seasonal craft drinks made with local recipes and a range of spirits, and clients are also offered a choice of beverage and comfortable robes. The salon describes its shampoo bowl experience as spa-like.

Haircuts and waxing can be booked online, and gift cards and series packages are sold through the booking site. Color services cannot be booked online. Cancellations and reschedules need 24 hours' notice, and a no-show or late cancellation forfeits the deposit. Teens 12 and up are welcome, there is no kids pricing, and Cowlicks is recommended for young children. Manicures, pedicures and massages are not offered.

Forecast is a certified Green Circle Salon, and its waste from services is shipped to Green Circle Salons for recycling. According to the salon, about 95 percent of hair, foils, color and other waste is recycled rather than sent to a landfill, and it says it recycles over 90 percent of its waste overall. A $5 eco fee is charged per appointment. Forecast is also a Stripe Climate Member, and a share of online shop purchases goes to carbon removal.

Club Forecast is a co-working space for independent stylists, with styling stations, a processing area and multiple shampoo bowls. Stylists there can set their own hours and receive concierge service and industry guidance. For clients, a concierge greets them and offers a complimentary cocktail and snacks.

Staff stay current through on-staff educators and outside experts who bring trends in from across the country. The salon ties its work to fashion and creativity and to caring for the environment and the community around it.
