fifth&mae Salons Buford

The first Fifth&Mae opened in Roswell in August 2015. Erin and Christina, both master stylists, founded the salon and co-own it. The Buford location followed in February 2019, Forsyth in September 2021 and Peachtree Corners in March 2023. The name draws on grace and growth, which the salon says also guide its mission toward clients, team members and others.

Stylists are grouped into levels of model, junior, progressive, senior and master, and cutting and color prices vary by level, based on experience and education. Team pages list master, senior, progressive, junior and model stylists, along with apprentices and reception staff. Hours are Tuesday to Friday 10am to 7pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm. Monday hours are 10am to 4pm, but Buford and Peachtree Corners are closed on Mondays. Spa services at Peachtree Corners are by appointment only, and clients can call or text any location to book.

As an Aveda salon, Fifth&Mae also sells Aveda at-home haircare. According to the salon, its stylists' Aveda training helps clients leave with ethically responsible hair and at-home care, and Aveda products are made with organic and natural plant ingredients.

The salon's FAQ is direct about at-home color. It says box dye is not professional quality, can use stronger chemicals and lower-quality dyes, and that correcting it typically takes at least two appointments and often four or more. Corrective color is not inexpensive at any salon, starts at $250 and is handled by consultation only, with results that cannot be guaranteed. Stylists may ask for a service waiver for color correction after that consultation. Balayage, which lightens by painting dye onto the hair, typically stops short of the root and needs fewer visits than other highlighting. Going lighter after at-home color takes significant time and money.

Facials are the other large part of the menu. Express, Aveda Relaxing, Signature and Luxe facials run from 30 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and all include a free skin consultation and a complimentary hand and neck massage. According to the salon, the Signature and Luxe facials use pharmacy-grade skincare. Chemical peels come in three levels and are offered seasonally after a consultation, with aftercare purchase required. Custom Glow spray tans use Sjolie Solution, an all-natural flash color, with a pH primer, barrier cream and additives included.

The salon builds its work around grace and growth, and it favors Aveda products made with plant ingredients. Its FAQ is candid about limits, noting that at-home color is not professional quality and that corrective color usually takes several visits.
