Allana Fabrikant Kanevsky opened Extology in 2014 as a small salon in Boston's North End, and the salon moved into its current West End space in 2017. The salon describes itself as dedicated to custom hair extensions and also offers restorative hair care alongside them.

About

The salon regards extensions as both an art and a science. Its stated core values are integrity, elevation and devotion. Before any application, the team assesses each client's hair and goals to choose a method and placement, and the salon says each result is custom, with methods picked for hair type, comfort and long-term wear.

A visit begins with an in-person consultation, which the salon requires before any extension service. Extensions are applied with Keratin Tip bonds or Tape-In extensions, using remy human hair from partner brands the salon selected after research. A full-head application for length and volume typically takes three to eight hours, and larger transformations can take eight to sixteen or more hours across several sessions. The salon does not install extensions clients bring from other manufacturers, and it does not offer reapplication, move-up or repositioning of previously used extensions.

Extension packages include professional application, a scalp massage, a detoxifying scalp and cuticle clarifying ritual, an extension-inclusive haircut, design and style, and check-ins two and six weeks after application. Pricing covers the extensions and the application and is customized to the client and the chosen method. The salon describes its application technique as patent-pending.

The salon is open Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 6pm. It is a short walk from North Station and near TD Garden and The Hub on Causeway. Street parking is available on Beverly Street and Canal Street, valet parking is offered at the Courtyard by Marriott Boston Downtown/North Station across the street, and several public lots are nearby. A cafe is across the street.

Each plan is built from an assessment of the client's hair and goals, with the extension method and placement chosen afterward rather than from a fixed menu.
