Owner Kelly Huseby has owned a salon since 1989 and has owned Downtown Designs since 1997. The salon puts strong weight on education, which it sees as central to its continued success. Each visit starts with a consultation on the result the client wants, the steps involved, the time needed, the budget and the upkeep afterward. Designer cuts and color begin with a consultation on face shape, features and skin tone. Long or thick hair and multiple colors may raise the price, and a consultation is strongly encouraged in those cases.

Botanical Therapy treatments blend touch with aromatherapy essential oils, drawing on Ayurveda, and are tailored to each client. Keratin smoothing comes in two versions. The Perfect Finish Keratin Express takes about 45 minutes and starts at $150, with results lasting up to four weeks. The full Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment starts at $250, averages two hours and may need more than one appointment. The salon states that the Cezanne Perfect Finish treatment is 100% formaldehyde free, and a consultation is recommended before it.
