Demeanor grew out of a friendship between Isaiah Mark and Anna Phavong, who wanted to open a community barbershop. The studio now houses independent barbers and stylists who each run their own services, so what is offered and at what price can vary by barber.

The studio says its visits have no upsells and no rush. Haircuts are the core: clipper cuts, scissor cuts, mid-length and extended cuts, and bang trims between full haircuts. Beard trims and hot towel razor shaves cover the grooming side, with moisturizing products included in those services. Color and perms are also available. Both need a consultation first, and color is mixed to each client's formula rather than kept on hand, so same-day color is not possible. Digital perms are not offered.

Walk-ins and online booking are both accepted, and booking ahead holds a spot. Color and perm appointments need approval from the stylist or barber first, who may ask for a deposit. A 10-minute grace period applies, after which the studio may cancel and charge for the service. Cash is preferred and change is not carried, though Venmo, Cash App, Zelle and cards are also accepted. The waiting area is very small, so guests who are not getting a service and pets are asked to stay out. There is a small lot at the front of the building, with street parking out front and around the block.

Each cut begins with a conversation about how the client actually wears their hair. The studio is set up for people of all hair types, styles and backgrounds.
