Commune was founded by Aki Serita Takashio, who opened Commune Salon on Grand Street in 2004 after years of serving clients from a private studio in Williamsburg. The salon now works as Commune at KRASI, with the owner stylist and four advanced stylists and stylists on the team.

The founder's stated vision is a creative space that is also a comfortable hair salon. The team works mainly in cutting and color, with texture control treatments, conditioning and styling alongside.

Appointments must be booked online through the salon's mytime booking page. General questions that don't need an appointment can be emailed to commune@atkrasi.com, and replies usually take three to four business days. For emergencies, call 718-384-7412. The salon is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 8pm and Sunday from 11am to 6pm. The nearest subway is the L at Bedford Avenue, about a nine-minute walk, with G or L service at Metropolitan Avenue/Lorimer Street and J, M or Z at Marcy Avenue nearby.

Color options include single process color, partial and full highlights or balayage, bleach and toner, double bleach and toner, and toner for blonde or bleached hair. Highlights and balayage are priced by hair length and style. Texture services include Cezanne smoothing, Cezanne keratin treatment, Milbon Liscio straightening and permanent wave with haircut. Blowouts are not included in color, texture, conditioning or styling prices unless listed. The salon does not offer bright colors such as pink or purple.

Haircuts are priced by stylist and hair length, and the advanced stylist price includes a wash and simple blowout. Haircuts at five weeks or less are for existing clients only. The salon sells Milbon hair products, and orders are placed by phone. An online shop lists body products and scents, home items and hair products.
