Colour by Jade is a private colour studio in McLean, Virginia, with suites 5 and 10 at 7917-B Westpark Drive. It sits minutes from Tysons Galleria, and the entrance is just to the right of a large gold wall.

The studio was founded by Jade DelProposto Thornton, who has more than 25 years of experience in colour. She began as a colourist behind the chair at Sassoon, later worked there as a manager, and went on to teach colourists. She now runs her own studio, where the work centres on dimensional colour, from sunlit dimension and glossy depth to blondes that are designed to grow out well.

Every appointment begins with a conversation about goals, hair history and the upkeep a client can realistically keep up with. Services are customised to each client's texture, tone and the way they wear their hair, and the studio serves all hair textures, including coily, curly, wavy, fine and straight. New clients are asked to arrive ten minutes early and bring photos of looks they like and dislike. A consultation is booked first for major changes and for extensions.

Colour services cover colour touch ups, partial and full highlights, balayage, and bleach and tone. Treatments include relaxers, a luxury treatment and blow dries, with a colour blow dry also offered. Colour enhancer is available on the booking page for 30 minutes at $110. K-tip extensions use individual keratin bonds that are colour matched and placed strand by strand. Custom extensions are offered as keratin tip or tape-in and start at $1,500; extension hair is custom ordered, and the nonrefundable deposit goes toward installation.

Parking is limited on site at Monarch Garage, 7887 Jones Branch Drive, on the second level in spaces marked for Reserved Amor Studio Salons. Complimentary client parking is also available at 7901 Jones Branch Drive, and up to two hours of free parking is available at 7902 Westpark Drive. Clients can book online, or call or text 703-598-5940 to request a fit-in appointment.

Each look is designed around the client's texture, skin tone and schedule, and every appointment is one on one.
