About

The estate sits on nine acres of private land in the foothills, and its name translates to Elderberry Castle. The Provençal-style architecture includes terra-cotta roofs, a stone turret and tall cypress trees. The property was founded by an Austrian, and a New York Post article names Jonathan Rosenson as the owner.

Accommodation includes ten guest rooms and the private Villa du Sureau. The guest rooms take their names from herbs and flowers of Provence and are furnished with European antiques, tapestries and artwork, with many offering wood-burning fireplaces, private balconies or canopy beds. The Saffron Room has an ebony king bed with ivory inlay that is listed as dating from 1834, and the Ciboulette Room has two double beds and a writing nook. The villa is about 2,000 square feet behind a gated entrance, with two California king bedrooms, a Steinway & Sons piano, a wood-burning fireplace, deep marble soaking tubs, a private Roman jacuzzi, and a private balcony and garden. Villa amenities include a welcome bottle of wine, in-room soft drinks, juices and fresh fruit, and housekeeping and turndown service twice a day. Published villa and room rates exclude an 11.5% room tax and a 12% service charge, which appear at checkout.

The Elderberry House is the on-site fine dining restaurant, and the resort says it has been a culinary destination for more than 30 years. Guests can choose a three- or four-course tasting menu, a three-course or five-course dinner menu, a cocktail menu or the wine list. The kitchen draws on produce from local farms, so the menu may change with what is fresh and local. Guests can begin with a cocktail or champagne, and the sommelier can suggest wine pairings. Guests with dietary or allergy needs should give 48 hours' notice. A 22% service charge is added to restaurant bills and goes to the team. The restaurant lists a minimum age of 8, and the menu notes the risks of eating raw or undercooked seafood or animal protein.

The Cellar is open Wednesday to Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. It serves classic and inventive cocktails, an extensive wine list and a light menu in a room with stone walls, rich wood accents and a garden terrace patio. Spa du Sureau offers facials with premium skincare, massages that combine stretching and compression with deep or light pressure, and body treatments such as aromatherapy baths and hydrating wraps. Events include weddings, rehearsal dinners, proposals, celebrations and meetings, with catering menus shaped by seasonal ingredients and guest preferences.

Built around a European-style country estate, with menus shaped by local farm produce and services arranged around each guest's plans.
