The practice is run by Dr. Catherine Cox, a fellowship-trained oculoplastic surgeon and board-certified ophthalmologist who works as a solo practitioner. Her aim is to get to know each patient personally, in the way of a small-town practice, and she values a collaborative, unhurried relationship between patient and doctor.
The office sits at ground level in a suite off D Street, with a central garden courtyard and a private parking lot. Reception offers a relaxed setting and personal attention from Dr. Cox and her staff. Patients can complete new patient forms before the first visit, and the office answers its phone line around the clock and replies to form questions within one to two business days.
Care begins with an evaluation of eyelid and facial conditions, including droopy eyelids, eyelid malpositions, excessive tearing, eyelash disorders, blepharitis, styes, thyroid eye disease and orbital disorders. Dr. Cox evaluates overall eye health before making any decisions about surgery. Benign lesions are often removed in the office, while malignant lesions are handled with a more detailed plan. Surgical work includes upper and lower blepharoplasty, ptosis repair, brow-combined eyelid surgery, eyelid retraction repair, ectropion and entropion repair, dacryocystorhinostomy, and lesion removal with reconstruction, including after Mohs surgery. Procedures needing minimal anesthesia are done in the in-office surgical suite. Patients who need more sedation are referred to outpatient surgical centers in Marin.
Cosmetic injectables offered are Botox, Restylane and RHA, and facial aesthetic treatments include the Vi Peel and microneedling. Dr. Cox performs every treatment herself and designs each plan around the individual patient's needs and goals. For eyelid surgery she aims for a natural, rested look, and she notes that individual results vary.
General eye care such as diabetic screening, cataract and glaucoma care, and glasses is referred to a general ophthalmologist for long-term follow-up. Urgent eye concerns are handled case by case, and patients are asked to call the office directly. Cosmetic consultations cost $300, which can be applied to services booked within one month. Patients seen outside insurance pay the same $300 consultation fee before the exam. Many eyelid conditions are covered by insurance for an initial evaluation, and accepted primary plans include several PPOs, Medicare, and the Meritage Medical Network HMO. Patients are asked to bring their insurance card and photo ID to the first consultation. Co-pays and deductibles are collected at the time of service.
Each treatment plan is built around the individual patient, with overall eye health considered before any surgical decision. The practice aims for natural, rested results in eyelid work and says individual outcomes vary.
