Another Planet is a shared beauty studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn, where each artist works from their own station and runs their own business. The studio does not have a receptionist, so clients book directly with the artist they want, using that artist's own booking link and price list. Prices and schedules are set by each artist.
The studio puts client identity at the center of its work and wants to feel open and welcoming to everyone who walks in. It enforces a zero-tolerance rule against racism, homophobia, transphobia, body shaming and sexism. Clients with any type of hair are welcome, and no one is expected to justify or apologize for the condition or history of their hair.
The space is on the first floor and is wheelchair accessible, and the sinks have chairs attached. Water is offered in the studio, with coffee, tea and other non-alcoholic drinks offered from time to time. Clients can bring snacks or order food during long appointments.
The studio uses cult+king, AG Care, K18 and Joico products, and aims to choose non-toxic, ethically made product lines with sustainable packaging from small businesses. Artists who want to join either commit to at least three days a week and have their own station as residents, or take guest spots, which are flexible and low-commitment. Prospective artists apply and join a waitlist for a tour of the space.
