A visit usually starts with a consultation. The complimentary one-hour wig or topper consultation takes place in a private area, and sample pieces are available to look at. Wigs are made with graft technology and hand-tied onto a thin, durable base, and the salon styles them with its hair stylists. Private rooms are available. Wigs are cut and styled in the salon or at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in New York, and free styling and a wig care lesson are included. Washing is free for all clients.

For medical hair loss, including hair loss from cancer and alopecia, a purchase starts with a doctor's prescription for a medical hair prosthesis. The salon does not accept insurance directly. Instead it emails a written estimate that clients can submit to their insurer for pre-approval, and clients are advised to check with their insurer how much will be reimbursed and how long reimbursement takes. Sales tax applies to wigs except those shipped out of New York State, and wigs bought for medical reasons may be eligible for a tax deduction, though sales tax on a cosmetic wig is not deductible.

Free wigs are available through the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in New York and through FreeWigsforKids.org, which the salon sponsors. Used wigs can be donated to the American Cancer Society. According to the salon, it has more than 500 regular customers and was voted Best Medical Hair Loss Specialist by New York Magazine. Wigs are sold at the salon and on a few websites, including adwigs.com and ourwigs.com.

The salon is open Saturday to Monday from 11am to 5pm and Tuesday to Friday from 11am to 6pm. It is on the second floor and has no elevator. Appointments need 24 hours notice of cancellation to avoid a $75 no-show fee, and missing a free consultation without that notice incurs a $75 rebooking fee. A $75 credit is applied toward a purchase made after a free consultation.
