Booking starts with a New Guest form that comes with the appointment request. It asks about allergies, any drastic changes the guest is hoping for, and natural and current hair color, and the salon does not contact new guests after that unless the appointment needs to change. New guests book a New Guest version of each haircut and color service so there is time for a detailed consultation. Major transformations, color corrections, extensions and complicated hair histories may need a consultation first. Guests can use the Stylist Match quiz or the service guide to choose a stylist and service, send inspiration photos (including photos of hair they do not want), and text (919) 753-3636 with questions.

Curly and natural hair is a major focus. Curl services are provided by Curl Specialists, and the Cultivated Curly Cut begins with a dry, curl-by-curl cut. Guests do not need to know their curl type before booking. Curl Lessons are one-on-one sessions that walk through washing, conditioning, product choice, sectioning, defining and drying. Curly cut guests are asked to arrive with hair styled the way they normally wear it, ideally on day 2 or day 3 hair, and to avoid buns, ponytails, braids, twists or other protective styles. Bringing a list of home products is encouraged.

Color, blonding and vivid work all start with a consultation about goals, hair history and current hair. Color formulas are customized to the starting point, previous color, texture, condition and the result the guest wants, and all color services use Danger Jones color, which the salon says is conditioning for all hair types and contains bond builder. Blonding may be spread over several visits when reaching the final shade in one appointment could compromise the hair. Vivid appointments can run several hours and often need lightening first. Snacks and drinks are available during color and vivid appointments.

Extensions begin with an extension consultation and an Extension Application sent by email, and installation is scheduled after the hair has been ordered and received. Stylists teach guests how to brush, wash, dry, style and sleep with extensions at home. Prices vary by stylist level and are listed as starting points, and final prices may be higher depending on time, product, hair length and thickness. Appointments are confirmed with a card on file or a 50% deposit, and cards are charged only for late cancellations or no-shows. Guests more than 15 minutes late may have their appointment cancelled and be charged the full service cost. The salon is open Tuesday through Friday 10 am to 7 pm, Saturday 9 am to 5 pm and Sunday 11 am to 5 pm, and is closed Mondays.

Each visit begins with a consultation about hair history, goals, lifestyle and what is realistically achievable, and the stylist then builds a plan. The salon aims for clients to understand how to maintain their hair and what comes next, not only to like it when they leave.

The space is creative and inclusive, with a judgment-free feel.
