A first visit is a consultation. The electrologist assesses the skin, recommends how long the next appointment should be, and removes a few sample hairs. Because electrolysis takes a series of appointments, the schedule is planned at that consultation.

Hair in the treatment area should have at least 2 to 3 millimeters of stubble growth before electrolysis. Clients may shave between appointments, but tweezing, waxing, sugaring and threading are not allowed between electrolysis sessions because they remove hair from the follicle.
