AGENCÉ was founded in January 2016 by colorist Erik Gutierrez. The salon was set up to give established artists room and freedom to do their own work, so guests book with the artist they want rather than a single house style. The business runs two salons: one on West Bonita Avenue in San Dimas with free parking behind the building, and one in Old Town Monrovia on East Lemon Avenue.

New guests start with an in-person consultation and fill out a short online questionnaire before their first visit. If they are unsure who to book, they can call either salon and be matched with an artist. Online booking asks for a salon and an artist. Hours are Monday 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday to Friday 9:00 am to 7:30 pm, Saturday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, and closed Sunday. A valid card is kept on file for every appointment; cancellations inside 24 hours and no-shows carry a $50 fee.

The menu is organized into blonding, color, cuts, extensions, style and treatments. Blonding ranges from face frame and mini highlights through partial highlights, babylights, bleach with a custom tone, and major blonding, which the salon notes is not available over box dye. Color covers gloss and toner, root touch-ups for gray coverage, all-over color, root shadow with gloss, and color correction, which requires a consultation first. Several services also come in a second named version, such as The Detail for face frame highlights or The Transformation for major blonding.

Hair extensions are priced from $125 to $400 depending on method, amount of hair and artist, and maintenance covers repositioning existing extensions, quoted at consultation. Treatments include an F18 scalp and steam treatment with a tea tree essential oil mask, a Milbon moisture treatment with a take-home product, and a keratin smoothing treatment starting at $300. A K18 bond-building upgrade can be added to color and blonding for an extra charge.

Retail is part of the business. The online shop sells products from Oribe and Formula 18, which the salon describes as the same stock its artists use. Orders can be picked up free at either salon, usually within 24 hours, or shipped anywhere in the United States. Gift cards can be bought online, are delivered by email right away, and work at either location. Non-refundable service policy: clients who are unhappy with a result should contact the salon within 72 hours to request an adjustment. Both salons say they welcome guests with disabilities, and access questions about parking, entry and seating can be discussed by phone before a visit.

The salon is built around giving each artist space to work in their own style, and it leans on Milbon, Oribe and Formula 18 products for its services.
