A Stray Hair was started in May 2025 by Anna Gonzalez Armes, a colorist who has worked in Chicago for almost 25 years and in Logan Square for about 20. Rather than one shared book, the studio brings together independent artists, and each person handles their own appointments through the team page.

The studio's view is that hair is a core part of how a person presents themselves, and the artists work with that in mind. Clients can read each professional's listing, choose who suits them, and book directly.

Color work covers highlights, gray coverage and full color changes. Haircuts range from a precision cut to a longer first appointment for new clients of Anna's. Anna also offers a quiet appointment add-on for clients who would rather not talk during their service.

The space also sells vintage resale pieces and handmade items from local artisans. The studio says it uses salon-grade products.

Each artist works independently, with hair treated as an essential part of personal identity.
