About
Nicole Basa, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon with substantial bariatric experience. She is medical director of B+A Medical Aesthetics and co-founded Cedar Park Surgeons with Dr. Abando in fall 2007. She has performed more than 9,000 bariatric and general operations. In 2010 she carried out the first fully robotic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in Central Texas, and in 2022 she was named a national trainer in robotic bariatric surgery. Aesthetic and cosmetic surgery were added to her practice in 2018.
Her training covers general surgery at the University of Southern California, a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at UCLA, medical school at Rush Medical College, and a bachelor's degree in molecular and cellular biology from UC Berkeley. While in medical school she did genetics research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Her aesthetic instruction includes liposuction training under Dr. Jeffrey Klein, BodyTite under Dr. Christopher Khorsdandi, facial anatomy under craniofacial plastic surgeon Dr. Christopher Surek, the CLASS abdominoplasty technique taught by plastic surgeon Dr. Campanile, and facial filler training from Dr. Tom Van Eijk and Dr. David Sadaat.
Appetite is a particular research interest, and she has written papers on bariatric surgery and ghrelin, a hormone that regulates hunger. Her credentials include a focused practice designation in bariatric surgery from the American Board of Surgery, and she is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Honors include teaching awards from students at USC and UCLA, the Healthgrades Honor Roll, the Patient's Choice Award, a Castle Connolly Regional Top Doctors Top 10 Doctor designation, and the Austin Monthly Top Doctor in Surgery.
