Jeph Wright

Jeph Wright owns Black the Salon, where he serves as creative director and works as a master stylist. He has been cutting hair for more than 24 years and has run the salon for the last 17. Before he moved into hairstyling, he completed a Bachelor's Degree in Plastics Engineering Technology. He has trained throughout North America and Europe with well-regarded artists and educators. Earlier in his career he held roles as a platform artist, national head coach and North American creative director for several global beauty brands, and during that time he helped build education programs and cutting and styling techniques for them. His approach to cutting pairs technical accuracy with creative risk-taking. Each appointment is shaped around the guest, whether the goal is a subtle update or a dramatic shift. He holds that hair should express who a person is, how they feel about themselves and how they live. He has received Metro Times Magazine Best Stylist awards for 2012 through 2017, Real Detroit Magazine Best Stylist awards for 2009 through 2011, a 2010 Nation Top Stylist award from Allure magazine, Tiffany Awards wins in Women's Editorial in 2005 and 2006 and in Avant Garde in 2008, Tiffany Awards finalist placings in 2007 and 2008, and a runner-up result in the 2006 Michigan Hairdresser of the Year competition.
