J. Patrick Mershon, MD

J. Patrick Mershon is a board-certified urologist joining Reconstructive Surgical Arts in September 2026. His work centers on gender-affirming surgery, genitourinary reconstruction and urethroplasty, and his fellowship training emphasized robotic primary and revision vaginoplasty, phalloplasty, and revision surgery after both masculinizing and feminizing procedures.

He completed his urology residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, then a Reconstructive Urology and Gender Affirmation Surgery fellowship at University Hospitals in Cleveland under Dr. Shubham Gupta. He received a Bachelor of Arts in biology, with a concentration in environmental studies, from Kenyon College. He then attended the University of Virginia School of Medicine, taking international surgical rotations in Rwanda and Tanzania during those years. Two years of research at the National Institutes of Health and the US Department of Agriculture came before medical school. His body of research and scholarship in reconstructive urology and gender-affirming surgery is extensive.
