Dr. J. Patrick Mershon

Dr. J. Patrick Mershon is a board-certified urologist who will join Reconstructive Surgical Arts in Columbus in September 2026. His practice is devoted entirely to gender surgery, with a focus on transgender patients. His clinical work covers gender-affirming surgery, genitourinary reconstruction and urethroplasty. His first exposure to gender surgery came during his urology residency at The Ohio State University. He then trained in a reconstructive urology and gender affirmation surgery fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center under Dr. Shubham Gupta, focusing on robotic primary and revision vaginoplasty, phalloplasty, and revision surgery following both masculinizing and feminizing operations. Prior to medical school at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, he spent two years in research at the National Institutes of Health and the US Department of Agriculture. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, concentrating in Environmental Studies, at Kenyon College. His research and scholarship in reconstructive urology and gender-affirming surgery is extensive.
