Edmund Rhett, MD

Edmund Rhett, MD, is an OB/GYN and the founder of Rhett Women's Center. He earned a biology degree from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, and his MD from the Medical College of Georgia. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has been board certified since 1979. He returned to Charleston in 1977 and launched the first OB/GYN practice in Mount Pleasant. He expanded that three-person group into what became Lowcountry OB/GYN, which the practice describes as the area's largest practice of its kind. In 2006 he stopped doing obstetrics to focus on gynecology for women of all ages. He created the in-house surgery center, which offers minimally invasive procedures at a lower cost than hospital surgery. He served on the founding board of East Cooper Hospital, holds privileges at Roper St. Francis and East Cooper Medical Center, and was an original member of the Southern Clinical Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He developed a weight loss program and expanded bioidentical hormone replacement therapy at the practice. He follows a bioidentical hormone protocol that he considers the most current and scientifically based method. He keeps up with studies and clinical trials in his specialty and beyond.
