About
Dr. Denkler is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has served the San Francisco Bay Area since 1989. He trained at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, completed a plastic and reconstructive surgery residency with the Cronin, Bauer, and Biggs group in Houston, and then took a hand surgery fellowship with Dr. Eugene Kilgore in San Francisco. He also completed a one-year craniofacial surgery fellowship with Dr. Paul Tessier in Paris. He has been a clinical professor of plastic surgery at UCSF since 1988, where he teaches plastic surgery residents and worked as a full-time plastic surgeon after his fellowship. He served as Chief of Medical Staff at Marin General Hospital from 2003 to 2005 and was elected President of the Association of Clinical Faculty in 2006, and is past president of UCSF's association.
His cosmetic work covers the face, neck, breasts and body. His reconstructive work includes skin cancer excision and reconstruction, reconstruction after Mohs surgery, and repair after traumatic injuries and scarring. He also treats Dupuytren contracture of the hand, using open surgery or needle aponeurotomy, and including Xiaflex collagenase injection among other approaches. He has published research on releasing Dupuytren contracture in an in-office procedure under local anesthesia with epinephrine. His work on epinephrine with local anesthesia contributed to the origins of wide-awake hand surgery, and he is internationally renowned for treating Dupuytren contracture. He is among the top doctors in plastic surgery in Marin Magazine's 415 Top Doctors List and in Castle Connolly's America's Top Doctors.
He conducts the initial 30-minute consultation for surgical and non-surgical planning, and he designed and equipped the private operating room used for surgery. Outside the practice he volunteers through his work at UCSF and the Marin Community Clinic. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, the California Medical Association and the Marin Medical Society.
