About
Dr. Vartanian is a facial plastic surgeon in Glendale, California, certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. With more than 20 years in facial plastic surgery, he has carried out thousands of procedures. He earned a B.S. in biology at the University of California, Irvine, and a medical degree with honors from Chicago Medical School, where he also completed a master's in physiology. Residency training in head and neck surgery and general surgery came at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center, under Drs. Eugene Tardy, Dean Toriumi and Gary Burget. During residency he took the Resident Research Award twice and received a patient care commendation. His facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship was at the Lasky Clinic in Beverly Hills under Dr. Frank Kamer, a program affiliated with UCLA. He has also completed further training in laser and non-surgical cosmetic techniques.
Most of his work focuses on aging face surgery and rhinoplasty. Roughly two-thirds of his rhinoplasties are primary procedures and one-third are revisions. Each nose operation is shaped to the anatomy, facial structure, ethnic background and goals of the patient, and addresses both form and breathing in the same procedure. His facelift types include deep-plane, mini, cheek mid-face and revision, and he also does eyelid surgery. On the injectable side he has given more than 1,000 under-eye injections, and he treats migraines, hyperhidrosis and TMJ-related concerns with BOTOX. Consultations include computer imaging to show possible results.
He holds an assistant clinical professorship at UCLA and serves as a clinical instructor at USC, training physicians at both the UCLA and USC medical centers. Over three years he co-taught an advanced nasal diagnosis course held as part of the annual conference of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He lectures nationally, has written rhinoplasty publications and two scientific review articles on BOTOX Cosmetic, and was a co-investigator in FDA studies leading to cosmetic approval of Perlane and JUVEDERM. He was also an investigator in the FDA studies for Dysport. He provides pro bono care at West-LA VA/UCLA and LA County-USC Medical Centers, including complex reconstructive cases.
