Blonding and lived-in color are the core of the work: balayage, full highlights and babylights, partial highlights, toners and root color, along with haircuts for hair a little above shoulder length or longer. Pixie and short clipper cuts are not a specialty, and clients planning a pixie or a vivid or fashion tone are asked to contact the salon before booking.

Some stylists work independently under the yello name, so prices vary by stylist. Services are by appointment only. Appointments can be moved through the link in automated messages up to 48 hours ahead, or by emailing hello@yello.salon. Late cancellations, meaning cancellations within 24 hours of an appointment, and no-shows carry a fee of at least $50, set by each stylist and possibly up to the full service total, charged to the card on file. A three-strike system tracks cancellations, late cancellations, no-shows and arrivals more than 15 minutes late, and repeated offenses can lead to the client being blocked from booking with the salon's team.

Color correction is no longer offered, though haircuts and root coverage are excluded from that policy. Clients who are unhappy with a service are invited to get in touch so the stylist can see them again and make it right.

The salon aims to build long-term relationships with clients and to give stylists room to grow and build a career.
