West Coast Curls

The studio describes itself as the premiere curly hair studio in LA County.

Haircuts are cut dry in the natural curl pattern, so the shape is set with the curl as it sits. New clients usually book the West Coast Curls Experience, a 2 hour 30 minute visit that begins with a full consultation and includes a custom dry cut, scalp exfoliation, a deep conditioner, a wash, and a natural style. A shorter Dry Express Curl Cut for new clients takes 1 hour 15 minutes and refines shape, removes bulk, and adjusts layers. Return clients are routed by how long it has been since their last visit: 3 to 6 months ago books the Curly Cut Experience or the Express Curly Haircut, and anything longer than 6 months books the new client cut.

For guests who are unsure what to book, or who want help with washing, styling, and product choices, the Consultation and Curl Coaching is a 45 minute session. Guests outside LA County can book a 45 minute one-on-one coaching session over Zoom covering the same topics. Return clients who had a haircut with Kiana Rae within the last 5 months can book a 2 hour Wash and Style, which enhances or boosts the natural curl pattern and does not include a cut. A 30 minute Bang Trim is also offered; it does not include a wash and go, so the two must be booked together to add one.

Booking requires a $50 deposit, which is applied to the service and is non-refundable. Clients need to arrive with freshly washed, detangled hair that is fully air dried with little to no product, worn down rather than in a ponytail, bun, twists, braids, or finger coils. A current hair photo is requested by text or email a week ahead and must be provided at least 48 hours before the appointment. Because the salon space is small, guests may not bring others along; clients ages 13 to 17 may bring one parent or guardian, and the minimum booking age is 13. Hoodies, hats, and hoop earrings are not permitted. Cancellation, rescheduling, and late arrival terms are set out by the studio, and all services are final, so anyone unhappy with a service should contact the studio within 24 hours.

Fits each haircut to the guest's personality and needs, and shows guests how to style and maintain their natural curls at home, with the aim of building their confidence in wearing curls.
