About

WellAve began in 2016 when Dr. Allan Harrington founded it as a mobile dermatology service that traveled to patients in underserved parts of Maryland. The practice later partnered with primary care and urgent care facilities in those areas. It describes its mission as providing access to quality dermatological care, and says it treats patients like family.

The practice has offices in Salisbury, Stevensville, Hagerstown, Frederick, Easton and Annapolis, and began serving Frederick in 2021. The Gambrills/Crofton office has closed, and calls for that area go to Annapolis. Most insurance plans are accepted, including Medicare, Medicaid and Tricare, and secondary insurance is accepted when the primary plan is one the practice takes. Self-pay rates are available for patients without insurance. Patients are asked to bring a current photo ID and insurance card to each visit.

Skin cancer screening is a visual head-to-toe exam by a trained dermatology provider, usually completed in under 15 minutes. The practice recommends a screening once a year, and more often for people at higher risk. Pathology is handled in-house in partnership with AnaPath Laboratories: AnaPath prepares the slides and an in-house dermatopathologist reviews each sample. Results are provided within 48 hours, according to the practice, and the service does not add cost for patients. Previously, samples went to a third-party lab.

Mohs surgery is offered at the Annapolis, Easton and Frederick locations for challenging and delicate skin cancers. It is an outpatient procedure that averages about 1.5 to 2.5 hours, though patients should plan for a much longer visit, since waits of an hour or more occur while each layer is examined. Patients are generally advised to arrange a ride home. Outside dermatology referrals to the Mohs center are accepted. The Frederick Mohs facility has new surgery suites, several exam rooms and an onsite laboratory that uses the Advantik QS12 Cryostat, which the practice describes as the most advanced cryostat available.

Cosmetic services include Botox, Dysport, several dermal fillers, Hydrafacial, microneedling, PRX and Derm Perfexion. Cosmetic appointments cannot be booked online and must be scheduled by phone. The practice says patients can book by phone or online and be seen by a provider within the same week. It describes its care as affordable, says it does not perform unnecessary procedures, and says patients voted it the 2026 Best Dermatology Office.

Physician-led and patient-first, with a stated focus on access to quality dermatological care. The practice says it avoids unnecessary procedures.

The practice describes its offices as welcoming, with friendly and professional staff.
