Volume Salon

Volume Salon opened in 2005 at 520 W. 5th St. in uptown Charlotte, founded by sisters Maria and Dena. Dena is now the owner and lead stylist, and four stylists are listed on the team, including junior and senior levels.

The salon says its stylists have been trained by educators from Vidal Sassoon, Bumble and bumble, Beth Minardi, Wella and others, and it describes its team as carefully selected. It also takes part in fashion shows and photo shoots, and it donates to several charities, among them The Battered Women's Shelter of Charlotte, Levine Children's Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Susan G. Komen and the Avon Walk.

Appointments are booked by phone or online, and email requests are not taken. A new booking needs a valid credit card, a cell phone number and an email address. Extensions require a consultation and a deposit before they can be booked. Late arrivals may receive a partial service or none, and are charged the full appointment price.

Listed prices are starting points that depend on hair length, density and the color used. Retouch and single process color start at $120, and Olaplex can be added to any service from $50. Each stylist's starting prices are listed on their own entry.

Education and technique come before standard cookie-cutter cuts, and each client's wishes shape the work, according to the salon. Attention to detail and the client's experience are central to how it works.
