Founder Jeska Newman started the salon around the idea that it should work well for both clients and the stylists who work there. The salon describes itself as deliberately calm rather than large or loud.
The salon uses the term low-tox to mean more thoughtful product choices, not a strict all-or-nothing lifestyle, and it does not ask clients to be low-tox outside the salon. Color is done with Organic Colour Systems and Innersense Color Purity. The products are cruelty-free and free of ammonia, synthetic fragrance, silicones, sulfates and parabens, and most of them are vegan-friendly, with vegan options available on request.
A visit starts with a conversation. Clients choose the direction they want, and the stylist plans how to get there. Consultations are available before a first appointment, and existing clients or those who already know the service they want can book online. Services are priced by the time they take rather than from a fixed menu, with no product charges or hidden add-on fees, and pricing is discussed up front. Tipping is not accepted, and appointments are unhurried.
Vervain offers precision cuts and color, including complex color transformations. The salon says that a service offered at a full-service salon can likely be done here. For home care, the team recommends Treo Organics, Cult + King, Innersense, Organic Colour Systems and Afterworld Organics. They set their own schedules and rates, take unlimited time off, and take no same-day appointments. There is no non-compete, and stylists keep their own clients and may work elsewhere at the same time. Stylists can also book monthly one-on-one mentorship with Jeska Newman.
Vervain treats low-tox as a matter of thoughtful product choices rather than a rigid lifestyle. Services are planned together, with the client choosing the direction and the stylist planning the approach.
Natural light, plants, fresh air and soft textures give the small space a calm feel.
