Updosbylisa was founded by Lisa Drewes, who started working as a hairstylist in 2012 and spent several years at one salon before launching the business on her own. The company is based on Long Island and serves the tristate area.

The stated goal is to bring each bride's hair vision to life in a fun, low-stress way on the wedding day. Hair services are provided at the client's home, hotel or venue, and the team can take on large bridal parties.

Trials are held at the Commack studio by appointment, and only for booked brides. A trial usually runs 45 to 90 minutes and covers one style; if time allows, a quick version of a second style can be shown afterward. Trials are recommended three to nine months before the wedding and are not held on the same day as engagement shoots or events, except single-style trials on an event day. Clients can also try clip-in extensions from the studio during the trial for an additional fee. Clip-in extensions are recommended for most brides, with at least 220 grams of Foxylocks advised. Blowouts are not included in the price. Clients are asked to send inspiration photos and front photos of their hair ahead of time, and to share honest feedback during the appointment.
