The salon says it wants to be welcoming and secure for clients regardless of skin tone, body size, gender identity or physical ability. In its view, hair and makeup are tools clients use to show who they are, and the team aims to practice mindful, ethical work.

Services range from haircuts and color to blonding, styling, tape-in extensions, brows, lashes, makeup and wedding day work. New clients start with a complimentary consultation to talk through their hair goals and which services to book. A consultation is required before a first color or extensions service, and a consultation should not be booked alongside a hair or makeup service, since those already include one.

Getting there is straightforward. Street parking is free with no time limits. Bus 5 stops very close to the salon when coming from the north or south, and Bus 44 stops a few blocks away when coming from the east or west. Ascend Salon is accessible to people of all abilities, and clients who cannot use stairs can request a different entrance in advance.
