Tokuyama Salon was founded by stylist Taka Tokuyama, who opened the first location on the Upper East Side in September 2011. A salon in the East Village followed in March 2013, and the Tribeca location opened in January 2016. The business describes itself as the best Japanese hair salon in New York.

The menu is organized into haircuts and blow outs, hair color, Japanese straight and perms, and hair treatments. Prices depend on the stylist's level, Director, Master or Owner, with the founder listed at the Owner tier. A women's cut with shampoo and blow dry is $120 with a Director, $145 with a Master and $210 with the Owner. A men's cut with shampoo and blow dry is $105, $110 and $150 at the same levels.

Perm and color services begin with a free sit-down consultation with the stylist before booking. A credit card is required to reserve an appointment, and changes or cancellations are requested within 24 hours. Clients who arrive more than 15 minutes late may have services honored only at the salon's discretion. First-time clients get 20% off services with a Senior or Director stylist, or 20% off haircuts with a Master, with some restrictions.

The Upper East Side and Tribeca salons are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 8pm, with last appointments at 7pm, and are closed Mondays.

Tokuyamatcha & Onigirazu Bar is a matcha and rice ball shop run by the business, with locations at 627 E 6th Street, 115 E 27th Street and 28 Grand Street in New York. It is open from 10am to 6pm.

Built around the founder's own styling method, which he also teaches to other stylists.
