The Wax Room opened in 2017 and is run by its owner, Valissa, who also works as the studio's esthetician. It is set inside The Laurelton at 500 Helendale Rd., Suite 220, in Rochester. The studio serves female clients only, and male waxing is not offered.

Each visit is shaped around the client. Waxing is customized with hard and soft waxes, sometimes combined, with the goal of professional results and a personal, gentle approach. The menu ranges from quick 15-minute waxes for a single area to full leg and Brazilian combinations that take over an hour. First-time visits and first Brazilian waxes are given extra time.

Booking is done online through a booking site, and a valid credit card must be on file to reserve. The studio is open by appointment only: Tuesday and Thursday 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, closed Sunday, Monday and Friday. Before a body service, hair should be about a quarter inch long, roughly two to three weeks of growth. Hair too short to wax is still charged the full service cost.

Payment is due in full at the visit. Cash, personal and bank checks, major credit cards, Apple Pay, Android Pay and The Wax Room gift cards are accepted, but Venmo, CashApp, PayPal and SpaFinder gift cards are not. Cancellations or reschedules need 24 hours notice; later cancellations are charged 75% of the booked services, and no-shows are charged 100%, both to the card on file. Products can be exchanged or refunded if the studio is contacted within 14 days of purchase. Gift cards do not expire and can be combined with discounts, but they cannot be exchanged for cash.

Services are tailored using hard and soft waxes, sometimes combined, with a focus on professional results and a personal, gentle experience.
