The Sugar Den was founded and is run by Brenda, an expert sugarist. She opened the studio in downtown Everett after returning to the area. Before that she trained at Paroba College, graduating in 2014, and then worked at sugaring salons in Seattle.
The studio uses a sugar paste made from sugar, lemon juice and water. Brenda applies it with gloved fingers and removes it in the direction of hair growth. The business describes sugaring as a natural, organic alternative to traditional waxing, and says it removes hair at the root, lasts longer than waxing and exfoliates the first layer of dead skin cells. It also says its sugar is warm rather than hot and is bacteria resistant.
To find the studio, enter through the Sound Holistic Health Clinic door at California and Grand, climb three stairs, go through the glass door, then turn left; unit 208 is on the right. Parking of up to 90 minutes is available out front. Clients arrive with clean, dry skin, and hair longer than half an inch may be trimmed before the visit. Complimentary personal wipes are provided at the appointment.
Clients who have not visited in more than three months are treated as new clients. The studio recommends returning no more than six weeks between appointments for best results. New clients, or anyone who has not been sugared in a while, should stop other hair removal five to seven days beforehand. Slight redness afterward is normal and should fade within a few hours; lotions, exfoliation, hot showers and exercise are avoided for 24 hours after service.
Brenda uses an all-natural sugar paste, which the business presents as a gentler alternative to waxing.
