The Sugar Bender is a small studio run by its owner, Logan, who is the only employee and works with each client directly. The studio is in Downtown Los Angeles inside Salons by JC. Logan specializes in full body and Brazilian sugaring and has nearly ten years of sugaring experience.

About

Hair is removed with an organic sugar paste made from sugar, lemon and water. The paste is applied warm and lifted off in the direction of hair growth, so no sticks or strips are used. The studio says sugaring is gentler than traditional waxing and suits sensitive skin, with less irritation and fewer ingrown hairs, and that it creates less waste. It describes sugaring as generally less painful than waxing, though not painless.

Clients are asked to prepare in a few ways. Hair should be about the size of a grain of rice with at least two weeks of growth, and four weeks is recommended. The area should not be exfoliated for 48 to 72 hours beforehand, and oils, lotions and caffeine should be avoided. Hair should not be trimmed beforehand, since the studio can trim it during the appointment. Clients may be sugared during their period, and bikini services require a tampon, cup or disk.

The studio says it washes, sanitizes and disinfects tools between clients and cleans the bed and surfaces with hospital-grade disinfectant. Each client lies on a clean sheet so the bed does not touch bare skin. Booking requires at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule, and late cancellations forfeit the deposit and require a new one. Arrivals have a 10-minute grace period for appointments over 30 minutes and 5 minutes for shorter ones. Only one guest is allowed per appointment, the studio fits no more than three people, and it is not child friendly. Minors may be serviced only with an adult present, and Brazilian and Extended Bikini services are not offered to anyone under 18.

Brazilian sugaring is offered only to clients with female anatomy and covers the labia, mons pubis and butt strip, either bare or with a small shape left on top. Brazilian Maintenance is for returning clients whose last service was with Logan at the studio within the last six weeks. Full Brazilian is for new clients or clients whose last Brazilian was more than eight weeks ago. The studio does not offer intimate male sugaring such as buttocks or butt crack. Sugaring packages with customized sessions are available for Brazilian, bikini, facial and full body sugaring.

Logan aims for every appointment to feel comfortable, quick and enjoyable, and for clients to leave feeling cared for, listened to and supported.
