The salon opened its first location in Bethesda in 2009. Founders Jamie Lynn and AC combined forces in 2017, and the Shaw location in Washington opened in 2018, known as Shaw Shop. A Union Market location in Washington opened in 2020.
The salon describes itself as a hair salon focused on inclusive styling and transparent pricing, and says its aim is to create safe spaces for all guests. It is genderless by design and has offered a non-binary menu since 2018. It became a partner of STRANDS for TRANS in 2023.
Booking is done online through Vagaro, and a credit card must be entered to reserve a time. Each stylist has their own menu and price points, visible by selecting them, along with a bio and Instagram account so clients can choose who to book. Stylists hold a consultation before each appointment to talk through options and price quotes, though stylists in high demand may not offer one. If a booking error happens, the stylist tells the client before starting and gives a corrected quote. Appointments can be cancelled or rescheduled up to 24 hours ahead, and guests can join a waitlist or pre-book a chosen date and time. The space has room for a drink and laptop work during appointments.
The salon runs an in-house training program for its stylists. Since the salon stopped selling retail products on site, stylists suggest products through their own Amazon storefronts. The Bethesda location lists nearby parking on Wisconsin Ave at $5.00 for the first hour, with a $12.00 maximum.
Holds that more frequent, more affordable visits lead to healthier hair and a closer working relationship between client and stylist. Clients are invited to reach out with questions by Instagram DM or email.
A relaxed space where clients can enjoy a beverage and work on a laptop during appointments.
