About

The Salt Barn was founded in July 2018 and is owned by Tom and Jodi Crossnoe. It describes itself as a holistic wellness center and day spa in Smyrna, Tennessee, and it offers a broad menu that covers salt therapy, heat-based treatments, floating, massage, skin care and beauty services under one roof.

Salt therapy is the center of the business. The salt cave is built with more than 5 tons of Himalayan salt and keeps its air between 68 and 72 F. Sessions run 45 minutes and begin on the hour. Blankets, shoe covers and tissues are provided. Children aged 12 and under can book a child session for $15, and children under 15 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Phones, personal belongings, food and drinks are kept out of the cave. The business says salt therapy may help with allergies, asthma, sinusitis, psoriasis, eczema and other respiratory and skin conditions.

Heat and float options sit alongside the salt cave. Infrared sauna sessions last 40 minutes, with a 45-minute booking that includes time in the sauna room, and are offered for one, two or three people using Sunlighten Solocarbon 3-in-1 heaters. Reservations are recommended. Float tanks hold about 1,000 pounds of salt in 200 gallons of water kept at 94.5 F, in private rooms that each have a shower, and an enclosed float pod is also offered. Float guests must be 18 or older, or 13 to 17 with a parent present or written permission. The business says floating may support stress and anxiety relief, muscle and joint pain relief and sleep.

Detox foot baths are taken seated in heated massage chairs with the feet soaking in warm water for about 30 minutes. Paraffin wax can be added to the feet, or to the hands and feet. The business suggests a detox foot bath every other day for 14 sessions, a one-week break, then another 14 sessions, and then as needed, and it states that it does not claim to cure or treat any disease or injury.

The spa also offers massage in many styles, including Swedish, sports, deep tissue, prenatal, cranio sacral, hot stone, hot salt stone, custom, lymphatic drainage and couples massage. Facials range from a 30-minute Express Facial to a 90-minute Deluxe Hydrodermabrasion, with options such as dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, nano-needling, LED light therapy and lymphatic draining. Waxing, lash and brow services, body treatments, reflexology, chemical peels and private parties for up to 16 people round out the menu.

A holistic wellness approach that combines salt therapy, infrared heat, floating, detox foot baths and massage, with the business stating that it does not claim to cure or treat disease.
