The Powder Room was founded by Jaimie Branson, who opened the first location in Silver Lake in 2011. The business rented its Silver Lake space for 15 years and now owns the building it works in. The Highland Park studio is a newer location, set up in a 1921 Craftsman bungalow.

Color services are booked by appointment length, from a one-hour express color for root touch-ups or gloss up to five-hour sessions for full highlights or lowlights. Color analysis uses the RC Method Colour Analysis, which looks at undertone, depth, intensity and contrast, and custom color and blonding are formulated for any hair type. Color corrections are booked as six- or seven-hour sessions, and additional visits may be needed, with extra time charged at $150 per hour. A $50 color consultation is added to the next in-salon visit.

Extensions are placed with tape-in, keratin tip, I-tip, sew-in and clip-in methods, as well as hand-tied beaded rows, which the salon recommends as lower maintenance. Hair is not sold on site. It is ordered from Bellami or bought from The Hair Shop, where clients with a booking and a card on file receive 20% off. A gender affirming extension consultation is $50 and is credited toward the next extension appointment.

Reserving an appointment requires a credit card. Cancellations with at least 24 hours notice carry no fee, while later cancellations are charged half the service fee and missed appointments are charged the full amount. Same-day appointments can be requested by texting (323) 919-6122.

Uses plant-based, non-toxic products and customizes the Oribe shampoo and conditioner used in cut and blow-dry services. Color is planned after a color analysis that looks at undertone, depth, intensity and contrast.

The Highland Park studio is housed in a 1921 Craftsman bungalow.
