The Mindful Stylists was founded in 2016 by its owner, who runs two salons and still works behind the chair. The salon describes itself as having more than 15 years of experience as curl specialists and thousands of hours of training in advanced curly hair care, cutting, coloring and styling. Its stated aim is a space where guests feel calm and confident in their stylist's cutting and coloring skills, with a welcoming, supportive and friendly feel.

Before a visit, clients are asked to arrive with freshly washed, fully dry hair, without gels, heavy creams, hair oils or styles that stretch or flatten the curl. The salon recommends a cut every 8 to 10 weeks for long hair and every 5 to 8 weeks for shorter hair. Appointments are booked online through Schedulicity, and a credit card must be kept on file to hold a booking. Cancellations need 48 hours' notice, and no-call, no-show appointments are charged the full amount of the booked service. Late clients are asked to call ahead, and guests are asked to limit extra people joining because space is limited. Some stylists take children and others do not.

The Placerville salon is at 438 Main St. Suite F, and the Folsom salon is at 607 Sutter Street; the Folsom location operates under the legal name Hype Salon LLC. Beard trims, consultations, clipper and scissor cuts, straight and dry curly cuts for new and established clients, root touch-ups, all-over color, highlights and full head blonding. Prices run from $20 for a beard trim to $325 for full head blonding, with some services starting at a set price.
