Booking is by appointment. Walk-ins are generally not taken, and same-day requests depend on the schedule. The online calendar shows the next 30 days of availability. New clients enter contact details and a credit card on the booking site, and that deposit is credited toward the appointment. Guests who are unsure what to book can email loveyourlocs@the-locshop.com and expect a reply within 2 business days, or book a consultation of about 30 minutes, starting at $40.

Prices are starting points and are adjusted for length, volume, density and style. Every service except a consultation includes a shampoo, so clients detangle but do not wash their hair before a starter loc appointment. Starter loc sessions typically run two to four hours. All products needed for a service are provided unless a client requires a medicated shampoo or has sensitivities. Extra guests, including children, cannot attend appointments. Guests can use complimentary Wi-Fi and water, and tea, coffee, wine, hot cider and hot chocolate are available, along with a refrigerator and microwave.

Cancellations need at least 48 hours notice. Deposits are non-refundable on cancellation, though one deposit may move to the next appointment with that notice. Cancellations with less notice and no-shows are charged the full service fee to the card on file. Clients arriving more than 15 minutes late are charged a $40 late fee at checkout; for late arrivals, the phone number is 301-853-7323 and the text number is 301-781-6843. Adjustments and redos are handled within 2 calendar days for starter locs and within 24 hours for other loc maintenance and styles. A redo after that window requires full payment, and a different size or style is treated as a new service.

The salon is open Monday through Thursday 8:30 to 7:00, Friday 8:30 to 5:00, and Saturday and Sunday 8:30 to 4:00. Payment is by debit or credit card, including tap-to-pay; cash, Zelle, Cash App and PayPal are not accepted. Metered street parking is available in front of the salon on both sides of the street, paid through the ParkMobile app at $0.50 per 30 minutes.

The salon says it centers its service on kindness toward clients and on helping them look and feel their best.

Guests can settle in with complimentary Wi-Fi, water and a choice of hot drinks or wine.
