The Hair Kemist

The salon was set up to bring science and artistry together in hair work. Owner and stylist Alvienia Bell runs it, and the salon describes itself as offering an innovative experience. The suite is small, so guests are not allowed to come along to appointments.

New clients book a short in-person consultation first, which costs 20 dollars and takes about 15 minutes. A consultation is required before chemical or extension services, and also for any client who has not been seen in six months or more. Consultations are not held on the same day as an appointment. New client blowouts for relaxed hair and silk presses for natural hair both include a shampoo, a treatment as needed, a blowout, a haircut and styling. High density hair costs more in those services, and extra fees apply for removing braids, heavy tangles or matting, and extreme product buildup.

Services are booked a la carte and must be chosen at the time of booking, since nothing can be added during the visit. New client blowouts and silk presses take a 30 dollar non-refundable deposit that goes toward the service. Cancellations made less than 24 hours ahead incur a 25 dollar fee, and no-shows are charged the full service fee and blocked from future bookings. Arriving 10 minutes late may mean a reschedule or losing some requested services. Only one reschedule is allowed within a week of the first appointment. Service issues raised within three days receive a complimentary revision, and a fee applies after that.

The salon is open Wednesday through Saturday, with Tuesday by appointment only. It accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, cash, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and in person it offers Buy Now, Pay Later for bookings from 50 to 4,000 dollars with approval needed before the appointment. Gift cards are sold through its Glossgenius profile.
