The Contessa is a one-stylist hair salon operated by Marie Suriano under The Contessa LLC. The salon is in a private studio suite inside Sola Studios at The Galleria of Mt. Lebanon. Services are by appointment only, and clients can book online at any hour, ask for a spot on the waitlist when nothing suitable is open, or call 412-303-5993 or email to arrange a visit.

Cuts and styles are grouped by length: short (chin or above), medium (chin to shoulder) and long (shoulder to waist). Each haircut includes a shampoo, cut and style, with a $15 surcharge for thick hair or for adding a flat iron or curls. Blow outs, a specialty blow out with an iron and updos are also offered. Color ranges from mini and partial highlights to full highlights, root touch-ups and all-over color. Current clients can book color appointments that cover a root touch-up, partial highlights, or a gloss with style only, and a color-and-cut option is available.

New guests get a consultation built into each appointment, and there is a free 30-minute 'Let's Just Chat' conversation for anyone unsure what they need. Three new-guest packages are offered: a cut with style, grey coverage starting at $175, and a lightening service starting at $250. Each one lists its consultation and its time in the chair.

Reiki is offered as an add-on to a salon appointment in 30- and 60-minute sessions, and first-time clients receive $10 off their first one-hour treatment. A long-distance Reiki session is also available, paid in advance, lasting 15 to 30 minutes and possibly outside regular hours. The salon states that Reiki is not a substitute for a physician's care and is meant to complement medical treatment.

Several services can be combined in one online booking, such as a haircut, color and Reiki. Buy Now, Pay Later is available in person for bookings from $50 to $4,000, with approval needed before the appointment. Gift cards come in $50, $75, $100 or $200 amounts or a custom amount, and gift card sales are final. Marie also publishes a monthly beauty blog on her website.

Marie builds a plan around each client's goals and specific needs and challenges rather than only routine maintenance, and adapts hair plans as clients age to keep hair healthy. The salon says it aims to leave clients relaxed and more confident in the studio suite.
