The Collective was co-founded by Brynn Terry and Shelby Hogan at 9630 Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh. The founders set it up as a community where stylists can work creatively, keep a schedule that leaves room for life outside work, and look after their clients well.

Stylists here work for themselves within the salon. Each one runs their own bookings, so clients contact their preferred stylist directly, either through the contact form on the website or by email. The salon has no central phone line. A stylist can work with a client at their own station or use the shared central processing area, which sits beside a refreshment bar where clients and stylists gather.

Services are grouped into color, cut, extensions and treatment. Color work ranges from dimensional color that is placed and toned to suit each client, to a lived-in look built from several tones, to touch-ups for existing clients who want more depth and shine in their own color. Extensions start with an assessment and consultation before they are applied or maintained with a seamless blend. The Brazilian blowout is a wash, blow-dry and style, suited to clients heading straight to an event.

The space is upscale, but the aim is a supportive, welcoming feel. Buy Now, Pay Later is available for in-person bookings from $50 to $4,000, with approval needed before the appointment. Stylists who want to join the team can sign up for a waitlist on the website.
