The Basement Salon started in 2012 as a small salon in the lower level of a shared house. It later moved to another residential space in Mukilteo, and in 2020 it settled into a storefront in downtown Edmonds.

The room has brick walls and burnt wood, with texture carried through the design. The salon describes its feel as creative and timeless, with transitional colors, and says the team aims for a fun, lively energy.

The salon says most of its team has worked together or known one another for more than 15 years, and describes its stylists as highly educated and highly skilled. Each stylist offers their own assortment of services.

Bookings come with a few rules. A $100 deposit is required for wedding and special occasion services, and the final invoice must be paid one week before the event. On-location visits may carry a travel fee based on mileage and lodging, added to the final invoice. Hair extensions are priced on request and need prepayment for the hair plus a consultation, with the installment charged separately on the appointment day. If a client can't book with their stylist on a given date, they can call the salon.

Each stylist brings their own way of connecting with clients to shape a personalized look.
