About

Tantrum Hair Salon is in a brick cottage on the northeast corner of Gilbert and Brown roads, just north of Swig, with its front door facing Gilbert Road. According to the salon, it has been a Mesa destination for over 20 years and was named a 2026 Honoree on the Salon Today 200 list for business success. The owner, Heather, is a Goldwell National Artist who teaches advanced color and cutting classes around the country and internationally.

Parking is available in a lot north of the building and in paved spots behind it, including accessible spaces. A wheelchair ramp can be arranged by calling ahead. Guests are greeted by the concierge team and offered drinks and treats. Booking runs through the salon's online Phorest page or by phone at (480) 833-7700, where the concierge team can help choose a service. After booking online, guests send a photo of their current hair and their goal hair before the appointment is confirmed. A 15-minute phone or video consultation is available for anyone unsure which service suits them.

Appointments require a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the service total. Cancelling or rescheduling at least 48 hours ahead lets the deposit go toward one future appointment as a one-time reschedule; later cancellations and no-shows forfeit it. Arriving 10 minutes after the start time counts as a no-show and carries a $50 charge. Haircut prices include a shampoo, conditioner and styling, while hot tools are extra and intensive custom treatments can be added as an upgrade. Adjustments are handled by the original stylist if requested within 7 days. Extended styling lessons can be added to an appointment for extra time.

Color is mixed for each guest from Goldwell color and glosses, with a custom formulation every visit. Service notes are kept on file so formulas stay consistent over time. Dimensional color includes one toning gloss.

Alma TED Hair Restoration is described by the salon as a non-invasive treatment that uses ultrasound to deliver a hair care formula into the scalp, with no needles, and as painless. The salon says it is FDA-cleared as a Class 1 device and is meant for people in the early stages of hair loss. A series of three sessions, about four weeks apart, is recommended. A single session is $1,000, and the three-session package is $3,000 and includes shampoo and conditioner and a three-month supply of Nutrafol. Guests should avoid washing or coloring their hair for 24 hours afterward. The salon says candidates are expected to be in good health and not recently treated with steroids.

Stylists can join as self-employed or commission stylists, and the salon rents chairs and suites to self-employed stylists. It also runs an assistant program for recent cosmetology graduates and newly licensed stylists, with hands-on training and mentorship. Clients who are unsure which stylist to book can take a style-matching quiz. The salon says it supports Beyond the Hurt, an organization that helps domestic violence survivors, and provides free hair treatments, services and facials each month through that program.

The salon says its Goldwell color enhances hair condition and gives high shine, and each guest receives a custom formulation. A consultation and a style-matching quiz help guests find the right service and stylist.

The salon describes its space as clean, high-end and professionally designed, with plenty of natural light.
