Sweven Salon

The salon takes its name from Sweven, an old English word for a vision or dream, which its owner chose as the name. Sweven works as a collaboration of independent service providers, each running their own business in the same space. The salon aims to be a welcoming place where guests can relax, reconnect and feel more like themselves.

Each guest works with the salon on a custom individual plan built around their own beauty goals. Visits are by appointment only. Complimentary consultations can be booked online, and a consultation is required for vivid color, color correction and extension services. Extension hair is custom ordered with a 50% deposit at ordering and the balance due after installation. Cancellations need 24 hours' notice, and guests who arrive more than 15 minutes late may have their service shortened or rescheduled. Concerns about a service must be raised within 10 days and are corrected at no extra charge.

Sustainability is central to how the salon operates. The salon describes itself as eco-conscious, carbon neutral and certified sustainable through Green Circle Salons. Practices include recycling hair clippings, foils, color tubes and paper, LED lighting, zero VOC paints and energy star appliances. Furniture and fixtures are upcycled, drinks are served in glassware to avoid disposables, and shampoo sinks use EcoHeads shower heads, which the salon says reduce water and energy use by up to 65%. Products come from companies that are cruelty free and have sustainable practices.

The interior is light-filled and airy, with a place to relax over coffee or a snack and outlets for guests to charge their phones and other devices. Guests who need to get work done during an appointment can open a laptop at their station, and the salon asks that headphones be used. Visitors come from surrounding communities, including Edwardsville, Collinsville, Glen Carbon, Troy, Caseyville, Fairview Heights, O'Fallon, Granite City and Alton. The salon is recruiting hair stylists, makeup artists, lash artists and estheticians who want control over their own schedules, pricing and product lines.
