Helene Headington, a local esthetician, founded Sweet Pea Waxing Boutique in 2015. The boutique is on the top floor of a townhouse on Barrett Drive, less than half a mile from North Hills Mall, with free parking. The salon describes itself as voted Raleigh's best waxing and as award-winning, and says its aim is to make each client feel special and well looked after with personalized service. Helene personally hires and trains the team.

Booking is done through the online scheduling tool, which is available at any time, and a credit card is needed to reserve an appointment. Unconfirmed appointments are canceled 24 hours before the appointment time. Changes and cancellations need 24 hours notice; later cancellations may be charged 50% of the booked services, and no-shows or cancellations within 2 hours may be charged the full amount. Late fees must be paid before future appointments can be rescheduled. Late arrivals cannot have their appointment extended, so a service may be shortened or moved while the full price is still charged. Clients need at least two weeks of hair growth before waxing. Clients are asked to come alone, and children may only be in the boutique while receiving a service, with a parent present throughout. Video and photos are not permitted in the wax rooms, and products and services are not refunded.

Hours are Tuesday to Friday 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the boutique closed Sunday and Monday. Clients can call 919-356-0540 or email sweetpeawaxing@gmail.com. A refer-a-friend offer gives each person up to $10 off services, and a loyalty program earns one point per dollar spent, with 1,000 points worth $25 off a wax.

Custom spray tans are airbrushed with a water-based solution that contains DHA derived from beet sugar, along with acai, vitamins E and C, ginseng and rosemary. The business states its DHA is FDA-approved and eco-certified, and describes its tans as UV-free and streak-free. Before a session, clients should shower, shave and exfoliate at least 3 hours ahead, avoid showering right before, avoid Dove and Aveeno products, and apply lotion at least 3 hours ahead. Waxing is best booked 2 to 3 days before a tan, standard facials 1 to 2 days before, and chemical peels, microdermabrasion or dermaplaning at least 2 weeks before. Afterward, clients stay dry for 8 hours with regular solution or 1 to 4 hours with rapid solution, depending on the darkness wanted, and are advised to wear loose dark clothing and take short warm showers with mild, unscented soap.
