Studio 4 was started in June 1991 by Jeanne, Carol, Geri and Karen, and the current design team has worked together since 1982. All of its stylists share advanced cutting and design training from the late Trish Bonitzer.

The salon sits in downtown Barrington just off Main Street. It is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with Wednesday hours as well, and is closed Monday, Friday and Sunday. Men's cuts are $40, women's cuts are $65 and children's cuts for ages 5 and under are $25. Cuts follow a set sequence of consultation, shampoo, massage, conditioner and finish, and complimentary consultations are offered for all services.

Color is a core part of the menu, including color, partial highlights, highlights and lowlights, and corrective and specialty color, which begins with a consultation. The salon carries Goldwell hair color and also features Color WOW and Olaplex products alongside its own Studio 4 hair care line.

Specialty treatments include Malibu and AVEDA scalp treatments, each available alone or with a blow dry finish, and Brazilian Blowout smoothing. The salon is a Brazilian Blowout Certified Salon. According to the salon, Brazilian Blowout is the preferred smoothing treatment of professional stylists and improves hair health. The smoothing treatment costs $300 and includes a complimentary shampoo and conditioner with the first visit. Gift certificates are available.

The team's work is built on long-standing shared training in cutting and design and a working history that goes back several decades.
