Sola Salons rents private salon suites to independent beauty professionals instead of employing them. The Little Italy location at 1550 Front St. hosts hairstylists, barbers, nail technicians, makeup artists and skin care and medical spa practitioners, each working in their own studio.
Each suite includes full-spectrum lighting, a shampoo bowl, a styling chair and an individual lock and key on a glass door. Shared facilities include a breakroom, bathrooms, on-site laundry and janitorial services, and the building has 24/7 security. A single weekly fee covers utilities and Wi-Fi.
Renters keep all profit from any retail products they choose to sell. The company also provides a start-up manual covering salon licenses and permits, studio setup, credit card processing and retail distributor contacts. Renters have access to liability insurance, disability insurance in certain areas, retail discounts, online scheduling offers, continuing education and industry events, and the company hosts community gatherings such as cocktail parties and family picnics.
The company says it has more than 750 locations nationwide and over 20,000 independent beauty professionals. Each Sola location and each salon business operating there is independently owned and operated.
Each renter runs an independent business in a private suite, and the company supplies the space, shared services and support.
