Sola Salons Cascade East is a location of a national company that rents salon suites to independent professionals. The company describes itself as having the largest community of independent studio owners and says it has more than 20,000 independent business owners across over 750 locations. This Grand Rapids building is its first in Michigan.

Each suite is a private room with a glass door and its own lock and key. Suites come with full-spectrum lighting, a shampoo bowl, a styling chair, instant hot water and sound-insulated walls. Shared spaces include on-site laundry and bathrooms, janitorial service and 24/7 security. Access hours vary by location, and one weekly fee covers all utilities and Wi-Fi.

Renters set up their own businesses and may sell retail products of their choice, keeping all of the profits. The company provides liability insurance and, in certain areas, disability insurance. A start-up manual covers obtaining a salon license and other permits, studio setup, credit card processing and retail distributor contacts. Renters also receive retail discounts, online scheduling offers, continuing education programs and invitations to industry events.
