The Hyde Park location is at 1614 E. 53rd St., in an apartment high-rise at 53rd and S. Cornell St. with ground-level access. The site sits near the University of Chicago, the lakefront and public parks. Sola does not operate a salon of its own here; it rents space to professionals who run their own businesses.

Large studios are about 150 square feet. Each space includes utilities, 24/7 security, full-spectrum lighting, a styling chair, a shampoo bowl, instant hot water, ventilation and bathroom facilities. On-site laundry and janitorial services are available, and renters may decorate their studio however they like. Access hours vary by location.

Renters pay one weekly fee that covers all utilities and Wi-Fi. They set their own service and product prices, choose the brands they carry and keep all of their profits. The company says suite rent is similar in cost to renting a chair or booth.

According to the company, its wider community includes more than 20,000 independent business owners, and it says the property draws top cosmetology professionals from the local area. Each Sola studio location is independently owned and operated.
